Wagner is back... in a trailer!
Yes, it's Siegfried, songbird and all, at the Fenice Opera House here in Venice, now.
You may recall an earlier blog in which I opined on the Fenice's production of Parsifal and in which I lamented that the stage had no set, only a bare stage, and that the dancers, men and women, were entirely nude and cavorted on stage, as couples, moving in unison, face to face, as it were. It wasn't Zeffirelli.
Well Siegfried opens 14 June and the photo shows part of the set. I guess the director, Robert Carsen, and the set designer, Patrick Kinmonthv, were driving through Albania and were inspired by what they saw or else they have memories of the old Ireland.
Sigfried opens 14 June (unless the Orchestra at curtain up goes on strike as it did for the opening of Traviata 2 months ago). In keeping with the high standards of the set, there will be a strict dress code (jacket and tie) enforced. Underneath, though, come vuoi.
