Well, I guess it's time to get Venice prosecco out of our blood. So with what to replace it? How about Guinness, that heavy, black stout brewed in Dublin?
I am a reluctant fan of it and when in a pub, sometimes it is required to be embibed for sociability's sake, for the sake of conformity or new found patriotism. But, frankly, I'll stick with gin and tonics.
I have met numerous Dubliners who will down 4 or 5 pints in an evening. For me, that is not a consumation devoutly to be wished, to quote the Bard.
I forgot to mention that Guinness has a sales slogan: "Guinness is Good for you." Well, maybe, but not for the drive home across the bog.
Cheers!
